Ruberoid Building Products’ structural waterproofing system, Hyload, has been used on the RIBA award-winning Accordia housing development in Cambridge. Hyload products were ideal for the £60 million project thanks to the high performance and longevity of the range. The development picked up the RIBA Stirling Award in Liverpool on 11th October and it is the first housing scheme to win such an honour. It includes homes for private sale and some available under shared-equity schemes.
Houses and flats are good-sized, have well-proportioned rooms, some have views looking out to rural pasture and children have common land where they can play. In a bid to reduce waste, improve site safety, boost environmental performance and reduce the build time, much of the construction was carried out off-site. Hyload Original DPCs, insulated DPCs, cavity trays, preformed cloaks, tanking membranes and a full range of accessories were specified for the project.
Simon Cousins, Group Structural Waterproofing Manager at Ruberoid, said: “It is appropriate that a product that has as good a reputation as Hyload was used on this award-winning project. In Hyload, specifiers have a waterproofing system which can withstand the heavy loads required for today’s buildings. At Accordia, there were a variety of different styles of housing across the development designed by three architects. Ruberoid’s Project Manager worked with each of the architects and Ruberoid’s technical CAD designers to offer a bespoke solution.”
Both tough and durable, Hyload Original DPC contains over 70% recycled materials and is renowned for reliability. The reputation of Hyload DPCs made these products an obvious choice for this project because they can withstand the heavy loads of taller buildings using traditional building products. Specifiers get further reassurance from BBA Certification which confirms that all Hyload products are high performing and long lasting.
